One of the local high school’s is doing The Little Shop of Horrors  as their Spring Musical this year.  The parents of one of the students in the musical commissioned me to make a scarf of Audrey II for their daughter.  This is one of my favorite musicals and I jumped at the chance to make an homage to my favorite killer plant.

It took several hours of internet research, a lot of sketching, and several poked fingers, but I managed to make a wool version of Audrey II.  I’m really proud of how she turned out.  Audrey II is entirely needle-felted out of hand-dyed wool roving.  The only non-roving element is a piece of wool yarn that runs through the vine to give her stability.  After all the work I put into her, I didn’t want her to fall apart.  She was the darling of the market stand while she was waiting to be picked up.  Several people would have loved to adopt her, but she was already adopted.

I love  making needle-felted flowers and Audrey III was no exception.  The chance to create a killer plant only comes along a few time in a life.  I’m glad I was given the chance to create her.  Also, she might be worn in the play.
